LOR

LOR stands for Letter of recommendation. It is offered as a convenience to Credential Assembly Service registrants, recommendation-letter writers, and law schools.

“A letter of recommendation is a letter written on your behalf, typically from a faculty member that recommends you as a good candidate for graduate study.”

• The letter of recommendation is a critical component of graduate school admissions application, yet is entirely dependent on someone else, i.e. our teacher.
• It actually strengthens the admission aspect of a person and so this document is to be deemed of prime importance by any person who wishes to study in a good B- School.

The points which are to be considered while asking for a LOR:

1. Don’t ask for a recommendation letter by email.
2. Don’t make faculty rush as due to this, the faculty may give you an average LOR, which may not be of any use.
   
3. The letters (of which are normally required at least two) can be submitted by any person in an authoritative position who has first-hand knowledge of the applicant's scholastic aptitude and potential.

A good LOR considers the following points:

• Explains the relation of the person signing the LOR with the person getting it. It basically explains on the behalf of the letter writer that how he knows the person receiving the LOR.
• LOR should evaluate the student within area of knowledge that is in the context one knows his/her student.
  
• LOR should evaluate the student’s academic records.

These records should highlight the following skills:

• It should motivate the person for whom LOR is written.
• It should evaluate the student’s maturity and psychological competence.
• It should focus on the student’s strengths.
• It should be detailed.
• LOR should give an honest depiction of the student’s abilities and achievements.

A student should consider the following points:

• Do tell the professor, the date when you need to apply for visa for studying, so that he makes LOR on time.
• Student should neatly assemble all records with proper documentation. All records should be labeled and neatly clipped, so that professor has no problem while he considers all those documents for reference.
• Don’t write the LOR yourself, and get a sign from your professor. As this will never be an impressive LOR.
• Moreover leave a good impression at your undergraduate level so that your professor feels pride in writing an LOR for you.
• A LOR should add to your Statement of Purpose (SOP).

This chart shows that about 69% of students find it extremely difficult to get a LOR.

A well written letter of recommendation provides admissions committees with information that isn't found elsewhere in the application. A letter of recommendation is a detailed discussion, from a faculty member, of the personal qualities, accomplishments, and experiences that make you unique and perfect for the programs to which you've applied.
